Where I'd rather be

stretched out with a book, but sixty-five miles away from here is a seemingly insurmountable pile of grading to be dealt with. However, it's the end of the semester and tomorrow night we're going here and thereafter to a party

i-Phone photograph taken one gray morning of a 300 lb gorilla aka our supremely comfortable, mohair-clad sofa. Note, sofa not couch.

  1. Oh- do a great spread and A everyone! Why mohair? Why- because it is fantastic- Have 2-both Clarence House- a camel and a claret-the camel now going on 12 years. Still looks amazing-even better. GT

  2. Camel mohair sounds wonderful. The blue chair in the upper photo was to be camel wool but alas that was nixed. As to A-ing everyone; would that it were possible, but if one takes the stance that grades are earned not given then ...

  3. OK mohair gurus: how did you handle the welting? I've read that mohair welting on chair cushions doesn't wear well. I'm considering claret mohair for two chairs by my fireplace. At 60, I don't need them to last 30 years...but looking great for another 15-20 would be nice! I know the feeling of having to be out in the world, but would rather be at home. You and blue eyes have created a personal sanctuary. So glad all those negotiations are over and luxuriate in the beauty you have created. Former teacher to teacher: do the old throw them down the stairs trick to determine grade (A's at the top. F's at the bottom. Never did that. But it did appeal!)

  4. Home before dark - thank you for brightening my grading-darkened day. As to the welting - what welting last that long under stress? If you're 60 count on another 30 at least - the mohair will see you out. I love the stuff. There have been a number of times when I wanted to throw them down the stairs, and they me, no doubt.
