Still

Still, six days before the home tour, there are things to be delivered, placed, hung, moved and fixed.

The Turgot map we bought at the Louvre last year and had each plate individually framed. The secret to hanging in a grid as we did is not to use wire and nails but velcro. The map hangs above a Pakistani rug and together they are the sole decoration for the hall.

Grainy iPhone photo alas: professional photographer doing his work after the tour.

  2. Y'all must have used lot of velcro and a long level. Once in your hall, you'd have a hard time getting me out. I can't imaging the map full size.

  3. Command Strips is the name of the product we used, from 3M I think.

  4. Brilliant! Did you have to get the frames custom-made? Grant Gibson said that Ikea has some that fit.

Wonderful idea about using velcro. I used a glue stick. And a laser level.

  5. Not all the plates are the same size, if I remember rightly, which is why we had each individually framed and I must admit it never occurred to me to go to IKEA. I go there for meat balls, jams and rye crispbreads. Another reason we had them specially made is that one of our decorating threads is silver thus most of our frames are silver though that is about to change.

  6. As one who is meticulous about picture hanging (in groups especially), and symmetrically, I'm intrigued by your use of velcro. Can you elaborate? (I presume the weight of the pictures is not too high?)

  7. We used a product called 3M Command Strips (two pieces of velcro with glue at each face at the top corners of the plates and when hanging used spacers horizontally and vertically (1/4" balsa wood) and a long spirit level. The pictures are not heavy but have some weight as they are glazed.

  8. I know you must be in a dither! Hope all goes well. Your home will be a stunner, I am sure. Hanging grids can be a nightmare. I did use hammer and nails, long level, tall husband, in the places where grids hang in solemn evenness, they hide what looks like a visit to an acupunturist gone very, very bad. What will be the drink of choice after the home tour?

  9. Home before dark - thank you. Drink of choice? Champagne, of course.

  10. Where did the silver cross come from - behind the clock?

  11. Anonymous - the cross is Ethiopian and came from a store called Lush Life on East Andrews.
